Pick a question from your daily feed and film your video answer. The app checks your recording against your brand rules and saves it to your library, ready to schedule.
Before you start
- You need a Tention account with onboarding done.
- Recording happens on the mobile app (iOS). The web app lets you browse questions and upload finished videos, but the live camera is mobile-only.
- Grant camera access to the app when prompted.
- Open the Tention app on your phone. You land on the home feed.
- Browse your questions. Hot Takes (horizontal swipe) are tied to today's news. Go-to topics (list below) are evergreen questions you can answer any time.
- Pull down on the screen to refresh and get the latest articles.
- Tap a card to open the question detail. Read the article and your question. Optionally tap the Plan section to jot a quick hook, key point, and call to action.
- Tap Prepare to record. Your camera opens. Take a breath. The record button breathes slowly while you get ready.
- Tap the record button when you're ready to go. A REC indicator appears. Speak your answer. You have up to 3 minutes.
- Tap stop when you're done. A preview screen appears showing how long you recorded.
If you have brand rules set up: Tap Continue to review. The app checks your audio against your rules. This takes 10-30 seconds. Stay on screen. Backing out will lose this run.
Read the report. Green means you're in the clear. If there are flags, each one shows a timestamp and the words that triggered it, linked to your rule. Business rules are set by your organization's admin and are blocking. Personal rules are ones you set yourself: soft reminders, not hard stops.
- Tap Save video. Your take is saved to your library as a filmed item.
- If you have no rules yet: tap Skip Check to save without a review. Or tap Set up guidelines first to add your first rule.
- Not the right question? Tap Not for me, skip this on the detail screen. The question leaves your feed and a fresh one fills in.
On the web app (tention.app)
- Click Ideas in the sidebar. You see the same Hot Takes row and Go-to topics list.
- Click any card to open the detail drawer. Read the article and question.
- To save a Hot Take, click the bookmark icon on the card. It moves to your library.
- To record: film and edit your video outside the app, then click Upload video in the drawer. Pick your file. It uploads to your library as a filmed take.
- Note: web-uploaded videos don't get auto-captions or a brand check. Record in-app on your phone to get those.
You'll know it worked when
Your take appears in the Filmed section of your library with a video thumbnail.
